Iker Casillas
So, for reals, soccer it is….and again, another little baby in terms of my age. He was born in 1981 and is a Spanish football goalkeeper who plays for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid C.F. and the Spanish national team. He was a product of the Real Madrid’s youth system and started in the junior squad during the 1990-1991 season but it wasn’t until 1998 -99 that he debuted in the senior side.
He was good enough to replace Bodo IIIgner and was then Real’s starting lineup the next season. He then became the youngest ever goalkeeper to ever play in a Champion League final when Real Madrid defeated Valancia C.F. 3-0 just four days after his 19th birthday.
He lost his spot to backup Cesar Sanchez after a patch of bad form during the 2001-02 campaign. Soon after that though Sanchez suffered an injury in the last minutes of madrids 2-1 2002 Champions League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen. And, that was Casillas big chance once again.
In February 2008 he signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2017, with an automatic extension if he plays 30 competitive matches during the final season of his contract.
His individual accolades include a Bravo Award in 2000, UEFA Team of the Year in 2007, Zamora Trophy in 2007-2008 and as of late, he was named the FIFPro World XI in 2007 and 2008.
While in Madrid, he was La Liga, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well as Spanish Super Cup in 2001, 2003 and 2008. He also managed to find time to play in the Intercontinental cup in 2002.
