I’m finding a theme here, American Idol is on tonight and I just wonder if everyone thinks that Ryan Seacrest appears to be a “mama’s boy” or a “pretty boy” but then when you hear stories about him or hear his radio show (or on AI), he isn’t a “sweetie pie” at all.  He is a hardcore Hollywood star with the big house and the multiple-nice-expensive-too-expensive cars.  He just doesn’t come across like that if you with looks only.  He is just so “clean cut” looking, or at least I think so.  What about you?

Holy Sweet Sanjaya.  His name has become an adverb in my house.  You know like when one of the boys spills an entire bowl of cereal, I feel compelled to say something along the lines of “Sweet Sanjaya, how did you do that?” or “Holy Sanajay, this is a mess”

But the fact of the matter is, he is a teen hottie that has captured the hearts of many folks other than the little Ashley chick who was crying her eyes out.  He looks like a kid to me, so I can’t really call him a hottie and feel good about it, but if you were 15, he might be a looker.  Anyway, lest I be unfair and leave out the younger generations, I am giving you the information on American Idol’s Sanjaya Malakar.

Boasting a smile and hairstyles way bigger than his puny voice, this sweet aspiring singer was way out of his league on the sixth season of American Idol. In fact, when he beat out Sundance Head to make it to the finals, Simon Cowell wondered if the viewers had turned their sound down before they voted, and the poor 17-year old looked like he was going to cry. Despite the judge’s harsh words, Malakar did have the distinction of being the first contestant of Indian descent to make it to the top 12. Although no one expected him to survive for long, he had more longevity than anticipated.

Sanjaya Malakar Fast Facts:

• Participated in Hawaii Children’s Theatre productions in Lihue in his youth and knows how to hula.
• Auditioned for American Idol in Seattle with his sister Shyamali. While they both made it to the Hollywood round, she was cut on the final day.
• Was offered a free lifetime supply of Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Famous Bowls if he agreed to sport a bowl haircut.

Now, what is he doing now?  One thing he does is serve on a panel for Entertainment Weekly  Here’s his analogy of the judges on a few occasions.

When Paula told Chris Sligh that part of his performance was an eyesore.

Ace says, “[Laughs] I didn’t really get that. You’re judging singing, so I don’t know what an eyesore is. I think she was probably just trying to say that he was off timing with the band.”

Randy’s advice to Sanjaya after his “Bathwater” performance.

Ace said, “He’s been going for it for the past two weeks. He actually looks more comfortable in the last two weeks than he ever has on stage. I think the crazier he gets as far as ideas, the better. So go all out. He’s got nothing to lose. He wasn’t even in the bottom three. “

Simon’s analysis of Gina’s “I’ll Stand by You”.  He said it was her best performance so far after telling her last week that she was “like chalk and cheese”.

Ace says, “I’ve never heard that comparison before. When I heard him say that, I thought of a teacher with lactose intolerance. I thought the song sounded great.”

“I’ve been kind of hiding and not doing it successfully (laughing) and working on my own music,” he said. “I went to Rochester, New York for like three days. I have a friend there that I write with and the moment. I got there and I went out to a club. My fans found out I was there and the club holds 1500 people and they normally have 500 or 600 people there at a time. It was packed and there were 2,000 people outside that couldn’t get in. It was surreal, but it was cool.”

“All these songwriters are taking me seriously now as a songwriter,” Young said on Wednesday during an interview with MTV News.  “And now I’m writing with the biggest songwriters in the world.”
Currently living in Los Angeles and working on his own debut album, which he plans to release this year, Young described his debut effort as “pop with a soulful R&B vibe.”
